Sandwich Day

The sandwich is one of the world’s most popular snacks. Since the USA even have their National Sandwich Day, it was the perfect occasion for us to pay tribute to this humble but at the same time versatile and wonderful food item at our school.

On March, 27^th boys and girls from various primary schools of our district celebrated their own “Sandwich Day”. The whole morning evolved linguistic and (inter)cultural issues around the sandwich: What does the Lord of Sandwich have to do with the sandwich? Who invented the sandwich? What are the different steps to prepare a delicious sandwich? What is “cheese” in Italian, French or Spanish? Are there any similarities between the languages?

By far the best part of the morning was when the pupils made REAL sandwiches using lots of different fillings. Some of the sandwiches were so big that it was almost impossible to eat them! It was great fun and we would like to thank all the girls and boys who enthusiastically participated. Also, a very big THANK YOU to the pupils from the 2^nd classes of the middle school who joyfully helped with language activities and the preparation of the sandwiches. You did a fabulous job!
